Can I use the solar panel indoors to charge my PowerKeep power bank? What about on my car’s dashboard or through a window?
Bright sunlight is the best way to charge your PowerKeep power bank using the solar panel. Charging from the solar panel indoors or in a car depends on a number of factors, including the type of glass in the window and window tint. When you are indoors, we recommend using the wall or a USB port to charge your power bank.
What type of batteries are included in Energizer® PowerKeep™ portable solar products?
The PowerKeep 12 product includes four (4) Energizer® rechargeable AA NiMH 2300 batteries.
The PowerKeep 36, PowerKeep Wanderer and PowerKeep PRO include the PK10K, a powerful 10,000 mAh lithium power bank.
What can I charge with Energizer® solar products?
Energizer® PowerKeep portable solar products are perfect for charging USB devices and today’s digital assistants — smartphones and tablets of all sizes and models. Each PowerKeep product is different (see specifications for specific products), but every product battery will charge the average smartphone several times and the average tablet between one and two times, depending on size.
Best of all, you can stay charged while on the go – just find direct sunlight and power up!
How long does charging take?
Each Energizer® PowerKeep solar product has slightly different specifications — you can see each one on their individual product pages. See our charging table. Charging time will vary by device, how depleted the battery is and other factors.
Can I run my device from the panels while it charges?
Yes! Plugging your device into a PowerKeep product is much like plugging into an outlet. If your solar panels are in direct sunlight, they will charge the battery and your device while you use it — so let the music play, the conversation continue and never miss a text!
How long will it take to charge the power bank or batteries from the solar panel?
That depends on the intensity of the light source and the power bank or batteries you’re using. Specifications for each device are available on the corresponding product page so you can select the Energizer® PowerKeep portable solar product that’s perfect for you!
How can I charge my PK10K power bank or my PKcharge charging unit?
Both the PK10K and PKcharge can be charged three ways: by a standard USB port, a wall outlet or by our PowerKeep portable solar panels. All necessary cables are included within the product packaging of the specific PowerKeep product you purchase.
To charge the PK10K or PKcharge from the wall, you will use the same wall transformer you currently use to charge your device. We don’t include a wall transformer because most devices already come with them.
Can I charge my power bank at the same time I charge my phone or USB device?
Yes! You can connect the solar panel to the input port of the power bank while your phone or USB device is connected to the output port on the power bank.
Can I charge my phone or USB device directly from the solar panel?
Yes! Just remember that when the sun goes down or is obstructed, the output current from the solar panel may drop below what is required to charge your phone. You may see a charging error on your phone. No worries, either move into the sun and unplug and then plug the cable back into the device or reach for your PowerKeep power bank and connect your phone into the output port on the power bank.
Can I charge the products with a light source other than the sun?
Probably not. Most light sources, other than sunlight, are not intense enough to create the solar power necessary to charge the power bank or your device.
Aren’t solar panels made from glass which makes them fragile and heavy?
Most solar panels are made of glass, but not ours! All Energizer® PowerKeep portable solar products use the flexible, lightweight copper indium gallium (di)selenide (CIGS) solar panels — created by Ascent Solar — to allow for seamless integration of solar power into a complete line of applications without the restrictions of conventional glass solar panels. Traditional glass panels are breakable and integrating them into fabric or non-flat consumer products remains challenging. The CIGS solar panels are far more flexible and durable, as well as lighter in weight, making the PowerKeep™ line of portable solar products durable, portable and efficient.
What does this mean for you? Products that are lighter, less fragile and more efficient in order to ensure your mobile devices start charged and stay charged.
